Abstract 江戸時代、日本を代表する水都であった江戸と大坂は、ともに水路上に多数の橋を抱えていたが、その性格は大きく異なっていた。幕府のお膝元・江戸は半数以上の橋を幕府が管理していたのに対し、商人の町・大坂はそのほとんどが町橋と呼ばれる民間管理の橋であった。これまで、江戸と大坂における個別の橋々については歴史研究の蓄積がなされてきたが、それを都市全体のスケールで俯瞰的に検討するような研究は少ない。そこで、本研究では、明治初期の地図上に江戸期の橋を描画し、そこに江戸期の史料から得られる種々の情報(幅や長さ、成立年代)を加えることで、両都市の橋の性格を都市的なスケールで比較分析する。それによって、両都市においてどのような思想の下で橋が架橋され維持されてきたかを明らかにすることを目指す。
In Edo period, Edo and Osaka, representative water cities in Japan, had many bridges on waterways, but the features were quite different for each city. While more than half of the bridges in Edo were under the control of Edo government, almost all of the bridge in Osaka, a town of merchants, were managed by private sector. Historical research has been accumulated for individual bridges in Edo and Osaka so far, but few researches have been done to analyze them on the scale of the entire city. Therefore, in this research, we will compare bridges in both cities from urban scale by depicting the bridge of the Edo period on the map of the early Meiji era, adding various information (width, length, and establishment age, etc.) obtained from the historical materials in Edo period. Throughout this research, we aim to clarify the planning concepts concerning the construction and maintenance of the bridges in both cities.
