Abstract <p>集積の経済の一つに、コミュニケーションを通じた情報交換、知識波及がある。一方で、コミュニケーションをデータとして捉えることは困難であり、その実証的蓄積は乏しい。特許・科学研究における共同研究関係を用いるアプローチによる研究が存在しているが、必ずしも多くの企業がそのようなR&D活動を行っているわけではないため、一般的な経済活動への外的妥当性に欠ける。本研究は、Sansan株式会社が運営する名刺アプリ「Eight」の名刺交換データを利用し、企業に属する従業員間のコミュニケーション情報を捉え、それがもたらす集積の経済を推定する*。名刺交換は少なくとも日本の企業における一般的慣行であり、幅広い業態における従業員間の交流を捉えることができる点に、本研究の貢献がある。ArzaghiandHenderson(2008)に示されたとおり、このような情報交換ネットワークは極めて地理的に局所的に行われている可能性があるため、地理情報の精密な把握のため、Zmapなどの建物情報および号レベルジオコーディングサービスを必要とする。
*分析に当たっては、Eightのデータについて個人を匿名化し、Eightのユーザーによって登録された名刺の情報をEightの利用規約で許諾を得ている範囲において使用する。
</p><p>The exchange of information and knowledge spillovers through communication is one of the sources of agglomeration economies. However, it is difficult to capture the communication quantitively, and the accumulation of empirical evidence is scarce. Although there are studies that exploit collaborative research relationships in patenting and scientific research, they lack external validity to general economic activities because not many companies necessarily engage in such R&D activities. This study uses business card exchange data from Eight, a business card management app managed by Sansan, Inc., to capture communication information among employees belonging to companies and estimates the agglomeration economies through communications*. Business card exchange is a common practice, at least in Japanese companies, and it can capture interactions among employees in a wide range of business categories. As shown in Arzaghi and Henderson (2008), information exchange networks are extremely geographically localized, requiring detailed building information and geocoding service.
*We perform analyses using anonymized business card data of Eight users within the permission scope of the “Eight Service Terms of Use”.
