研究内容
Abstract

We perform a collaborative research of Japanese and Philippine researchers to construct a system for disaster management in the Philippines, following the severe disaster by typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in November 2013. Focusing on meteorological data, particularly those for heavy rainfalls obtained from sensor network deployed in the Philippines, we develop a prototype of a geospatial database. We use an open source WebGIS to facilitate sharing and visualization of various geospatial data concerning both natural and social environments, while a desktop GIS is also effectively used for performing geospatial analyses. The Japanese researchers contribute mainly to the applications of GIS and open source software based on their expertise. The Philippine researchers contribute to the applications of network and hardware based on their knowledge on information technology. The prototype system developed in this study will be further enhanced for practical applications to the mitigation of natural disasters in the Philippines.
